Nokia Lumia 1020 running Ubuntu OS spotted

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is often being touted as the ultimate camera phone and why not, there is not a single phone market (other than 1020 itself) that packs an enormous 41 megapixel sensor to produce the best phone images we have ever seen.

Yesterday a couple of pictures popped up online that show Ubuntu operating system running on Nokia Lumia 1020. If words of gizmochina are to be believed then these pictures came directly from Team Ubuntu.

So has someone managed to crack the bootloader to install a custom ROM? Until now, no one has managed to do this on any windows phone 8 device (other than Samsung Ativ S and Huawei Ascend).

In order to port the Linux kernel to the Lumia 1020 hardware, one must be able to port drivers for CPU, display as well as touchscreen. You would also need drivers for GSM radio, Bluetooth and audio chip. The screen shot clearly shows that sound and Bluetooth are working on the Lumia 1020.
