Shown for the first time at CES in Las Vegas, the MSI GX60 and GX70 Destroyer are two gaming laptops, but until now, we did not know all the technical specifications. The Taiwanese company has finally made them available to the public few hours back. The two notebooks make use of a Richland-based AMD A10 APU and the new graphics card, AMD Radeon R9-M290X. Both MSI laptops are distinguished only by the diagonal screen size and dimensions.
The MSI GX60 Destroyer measures 395 x 278 x 45 mm and weighs 3.45 kg with a diagonal display measuring 15.6 inches, while the GX70 Destroyer measures 428 x 288 x 55 mm, with a weight of 3.85 kg and a diagonal display size of 17.3 inches. In either case, the resolution is full HD and both have the same hardware configuration.
Both have amazing specs underneath. You get the APU AMD A10-5750M quad-core humming at 3.5 GHz, up to 16 GB of DDR3 RAM and a video GPU that includes a dedicated graphics card, the AMD R9-M290X with 2 GB of GDDR5 RAM onboard, with the ability to work in hybrid configuration with the HD8650G GPU that is integrated into the APU.
For storage, the MSI GX60 and GX70 Monster has combination of a solid state drive and traditional hard disk drive with a maximum capacity of 1 TB. Both come equipped with optical drive type Blu-ray or DVD Super Multi combo drive. Ports selection includes 3 USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0 (two in the case of GX70), a memory card reader and digital video outputs that includes Mini Display-Port, HDMI, VGA 1.4be ports.
Communication modules include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth V4.0 and Killer Gaming LAN. There is an HD webcam with the ability to capture 720p video at 30 FPS, keyboard, Steel Series, an audio processor (Creative SoundBlaster) and a lithium-ion 9-cell 7800 mAh battery.
The MSI GX60 and GX 70 Destroyer run the Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit operating system. Thanks to the combination of the two video cards inside the notebook, up to three external displays running at Full HD resolution are supported. This gives you a resolution up to 4096 x 2160 pixels.
