AMD showcased Carrizo processor at the CES 2015 which supports hardware decoding of 4k videos using H.265 format. While we were not allowed to take pictures, we were definitely able to use the AMD Carrizo laptop for some time at the booth.
AMD Carrizo laptop review
We should tell our readers in advance that the AMD Carrizo laptop tested by us is just a prototype and does not represent any specific model by a company. The processor is also a pre production unit and its clock speed might change in the final model.
We could not carry out any benchmark tests but we were indeed able to check that the AMD Carrizo laptop was able to run 4K video in H.265 format smoothly and without any jitters. Also present on the booth was a high end Intel laptop which was unable to run video smoothly.
The message that AMD wanted to convey was very clear – the new Carrizo processor is cheaper and packs very powerful multimedia capabilities making it an ideal choice for gamers and video watchers. The Carrizo APU core is based on Excavator architecture and Radeon GCN (graphics core next). Laptops with this APU will arrive in the market in third quarter of this year.
